Welcome to Solo Flight
Solo Flight is a ministry where single Episcopalians and other single seekers: always-single, divorced and widowed; post formal education through post retirement can come together under church auspices for spiritual nurture, learning and sharing around issues common to the single life, fellowship and networking.
IMPORTANT NOTICE!
SOLO FLIGHT CONFERENCE CANCELLED
Due to numerous personal challenges and scheduling difficulties for both staff and interested participants,
the annual SOLO FLIGHT CONFERENCE at ROSLYN RETREAT CENTER in Richmond, Virginia will not be held Nov. 11-13. “We are deeply sorry that
conflicts have arisen that have necessitated this cancellation, and for any inconvenience it has caused our participants,” said DR. Kay
Collier McLaughlin, National Coordinator of SOLO FLIGHT MINISTRIES. “Our plans call for regional visioning meetings which will be announced
through the website and the yahoo group in the near future. We continue to hold up the concept of the spirituality of singularity, and what
that means in our culture today, across generations. We look forward to hearing from constituents regarding the cutting edge issues that
impact individuals today. “
“Things are being made new, even as we face the challenges of moving into a new phase of ministry,” said The Rev. Laurie Brock, of the Diocese of Lexington, who has served as co-chaplain of the conference, with the Rev. David Perkins, presently in the Diocese of Alabama. “I ‘happened’ onto the knowledge of this ministry with single adults by accident, when interviewing in the Diocese of Lexington. I had served in two other dioceses and never knew there was a ministry where the spirituality of singularity was the focus. There are important conversations to be had still—new ones, for a new generation, as well as continuations of the valuable conversations which SOLO FLIGHT has always offered. That’s where we are headed next.” Conference musician, The Rev. Bruce Stewart, Director of Center for Liturgy and the Arts in Virginia, who has been with SOLO FLIGHT for 18 of its 20 year history emphasizes the profound appreciation of staff and alumni for all who have shown interest in and support of ministry with single adults over the years, and patience during this time of reorganization and re-visioning. “We hope all of those who are interested in these concepts will join us as we look ahead to the next chapter of the story.”
